Gerek and other MF thoughts

Great match for Team USA against France. Most impressive of all was Gerek Meinhardt absolutely ripping apart an accomplished, veteran fencer in Victor Sintes 10-1. Race came in after and hung a 5-1 on LeFort to press the advantage, but I thought Gerek was the key to the whole contest.

Italy was obviously a tough draw. I thought the guys mostly fenced well against Baldini and Cassara, but Avola was otherworldly. I can't believe Cerioni kept him out of the individuals! Aspromonte was much more useful flipping his hair out of his eyes from the cheering section.

Thoughts?

I thought our guys did beautifully! I think the whole Avola vs. Aspromonte issue, was mainly political. Both have amazing results, in most other situations Baldini would have sat out. Obviously that couldn't happen because of his unfair exclusion from the Beijing Games
